Cannabis Compounds: THC vs CBD

Scientists are in debate regarding the differences between THC vs CBD, Cannabis’ two most abundant chemical properties.  THC stimulates cells in the brain to release dopamine, creating euphoria, according to NIDA.  CBD is non psychoactive, reduces anxiety, and counter-act the unwanted effects of THC.  The strain Charlotte’s Web has brought CBD to the forefront of natural treatment in infants for epilepsy.

The true phenomenon with Cannabis though is the “Entourage Effect“.  Studies have show cannabis to have 480 natural components, 66 have been classified as cannabinoids.

While science has not yet shown the exact role or mechanism for all these various compounds, evidence is mounting that these compounds work better together than in isolation: That is the “entourage effect.”

Cannabis Research

The Federal Government still does not allow for the research of Cannabis.  Lawmakers need to support the rescheduling of  Cannabis to a category other than one.  Research and practice has already proven to cure some ailments and slow the progression of others however, there is still much to be discovered.

Effects for Consumption

In short, CBD will not get you high.  The effects of CBD are found on a molecular level fighting rogue cells.  Evidence for CBD also links it to a more alert stage of awareness.  The effects of THC on the other hand will get you high and can leave you with a feeling of drowsiness and anxiety. Some of the positive effects of THC are sleep aid and pain relief.
