Fertilizer for Dense Buds

Dr. Earth Bud and Bloom Booster

Growing dense cannabis buds is no easy feat. Many factors like growing location, genetics, soil and fertilizers all have a profound impact. For this section, we will focus on which fertilizers promote dense buds and when to apply them. Using a proper fertilizer for dense buds is very important. However, it is also important to point out that some strains don’t produce dense buds. Generally, indica’s are more dense than sativa’s varieties. For example, a Colombian Gold sativa produces light and airy buds. She also takes more time to mature because she is a pure sativa. On the other hand, it is totally possible for some sativa hybrids to have dense buds. Blue dream is a perfect example of a sativa hybrid that is known for its dense buds.

Fertilizer for Dense Buds

Dense buds usually come from healthy, stress free plants.  To maximize your chance of harvesting dense buds, you must create a growing situation where your plant can flourish. To be clear, no fertilizer alone creates dense buds. Fertilizers are enhancers. When applied to healthy plants, they increase your overall harvest potential. My favorite fertilizer for dense buds is Dr. Earth Bud and Bloom Booster. I like it because it is organic, cheap and easy to find. I usually buy it at my local Dixieline, but it is also available at Home Depot and on Amazon.

I’ve used this bud and bloom booster for two years with good results. I apply as soon as flower is initiated and continue use until a week before harvest. I also like the price tag. Ten dollars will usually get you a four pound bag. Cant beat that!

Fertilizers to Avoid

When your plant begins to flower, it is important to avoid using fertilizers high in Nitrogen. Nitrogen is great for plants that are in the vegetative stage, but can severely disable your harvest if given too much during flowering.  When your plant is flowering, avoid using fertilizers labeled as “All Purpose, Vegetative, or Grow.”  These fertilizers can severely stunt your harvest. When purchasing, make sure to always read the label because not all fertilizers are created equally. This is especially true when purchasing Guano’s. Some Guano’s can be high in nitrogen while others can be high in phosphorus. For flowering plants, it is best to use fertilizers high in phosphorus.

  1. Hi Rhonda,
My preferred method is to mix right into the top soil around my plant and then water throughly!
