If you want to learn about the effects of Cannabis and Cancer, a good place to start is a documentary on youtube. Find the link here: “What if Cannabis Cured Cancer?” Surprisingly, 200 years ago we already knew the answer, Yes.
Brief Cannabis History
In the 1970’s the war on drugs was waged and the implementation of the Controlled Substance Act was put into effect. The Executive Branch then determined Cannabis to be a Schedule 1 Drug. This came with a stamp of, “The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.”.
As a result, the schedule 1 classification discouraged many scientist to conduct adequate research. Recently by chance Cannabis oil has been found to cure Epilepsy in children thanks to the strain Charlottes Web. This story was made famous by CNN’s chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta in a 1 hour special titled Weed. Dr. Gupta says he witnessed a medical benefit from his observations of Charlottes Web treating Dravet Syndrome.
For decades studies have been published finding cannabis properties to be effective for curing many forms of cancer. Simultaneously the DEA has refused to reschedule the plant and allow national research in favor of cannabis. Only the University of Mississippi is allowed to conduct research on their behalf as the only Federal Weed Farm.
New Discoveries
In 1990 science had a major breakthrough, The Endocannabinoid System was discovered.
What Is The Endocannabinoid System?
is perhaps the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment.

Cannabis Components
Cannabis is mostly made up of components such as THC, CBN, and CBD. Plants with higher percentage content of CBD create more of a physiological effect. CBD is what helps fight the cancer cells. Plants with higher percentage content of THC create more of a psychoactive effect. To learn more about Cannabis and the components, check out our blog post THC vs CBD what is the Difference?
